R&D

I came to DEY in 1995. This is the second career of my working life, and I’ve never been happier. This provided me the opportunity to work in the broader field of drug development and learn about the rest of the process of getting a drug product to market. I have been lucky enough to work on projects involving nasal sprays, metered dose inhalers, unit dose inhalation solutions, and dry powder inhalers. We helped file and gain approval for DEY’s first two branded products that were developed entirely in house.

In Pharmaceutical Development, we provide support for sourcing and selecting the raw materials and components that are required for the drug product, supply formulation development and formulation support for clinical and toxicological testing. We also work to transfer the formulation technology to manufacturing, and oversee formulation characterization studies, container/closure characterization studies, and drug product characterization studies. In addition, supply reports and information that become a part of our drug applications (NDA or ANDA) to the Food and Drug Administration. The variety of these kinds of exercises — working with new products, new technologies, and diverse types of studies — keeps my interest level high. Another plus is that during the course of a project I work with employees from virtually every department in the company. I also have an altruistic reason for being excited about my work. Here at DEY, we are developing pharmaceuticals for treating asthma, allergies, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). As my mother died of complications arising from emphysema (a type of COPD), I am especially motivated by working for DEY, whose products improve the quality of life for people with such ailments.
