DEY, L.P. Raises $71,500 For the American Lung Association’s “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk

DEY Employees Make Contribution To Santa Rosa Fundraiser

Napa, CA, November 4, 2002 - DEY, L.P., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on prescription drug products for the treatment of selected respiratory diseases and allergies, today announced that its employees raised $71,500 for the American Lung Association’s (ALA) recently completed “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” fundraising walk in Santa Rosa. Nationwide, 70 Asthma Walks raised more than $3 million to fund asthma education and advocacy programs, and research into better treatments and a cure for asthma and other lung diseases. The Redwood Empire Chapter of the ALA of California, based in Santa Rosa and covering seven counties, secured pledges of more than $122,000, making it the second largest Asthma Walk fundraiser in the country.

“The active involvement and contribution of our employees in the ALA’s ‘Blow the Whistle on Asthma’ walk is demonstrative of the work that I see every day by our dedicated employees,” said Charles Rice, President and CEO of DEY. “We truly understand the daily struggle that victims of respiratory disease must endure. Beyond the contributions that our company makes every day towards the fight against lung disease, including asthma and emphysema, we hope that our participation in this event will ultimately lead to victory for asthma sufferers at the finish line. DEY will continue to support the ALA in its important research, education, and patient outreach for respiratory disease, and so we have pledged our ongoing sponsorship for next year’s asthma walks.”

Although the majority of DEY’s financial support for the ALA’s “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” fundraisers was focused on the Santa Rosa walk, the Company’s nationally based employees also continue to support the ALA’s mission. DEY employees raised money and participated in separate “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” walks in Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York, and Ft. Lauderdale, and their efforts have been supplemented by additional corporate contributions.

“Through DEY’s participation, we were able to double our chapter’s fundraising goal and make this event the second most successful nationwide,” said Jenny Bard, spokeswoman for the Redwood Empire Chapter. “The spirit and teamwork of the individual DEY team members was instrumental to the success of our event. Through their efforts, our mission to help cure lung disease is one step closer.”
