Dey, L.P. Raises Over $101,000 for the American Lung Association’s “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walk, Leads Nation for Second Consecutive Year
ALA President Recognizes Dey for Company’s Contribution
Napa, CA, November 6, 2003 - Dey, L.P., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on prescription drug products for the treatment of selected respiratory diseases and allergies, today announced that its employees raised over $101,000 for the American Lung Association’s (ALA) “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” fundraising walk in Santa Rosa, sponsored by the Redwood Empire Chapter of the ALA. For the second year in a row, Dey’s contribution helped make the Redwood Empire Chapter’s walk the most successful fundraising event of all of the ALA’s walks nationwide. Dey spearheaded the largest corporate walk fundraising effort in the U.S., and also included in its ranks the most successful individual fundraising team. The Redwood Empire Chapter, based in Santa Rosa and covering seven counties, raised more than $185,000 overall.
The ALA will honor Dey for its contribution by providing a celebratory lunch and awards ceremony on November 13, 2003. Walk participants will receive plaques and earned incentive awards. In addition, Dey will recognize employees who reached certain fundraising targets, such as raising the most money and team awards, with its own incentive prizes.
In a recent letter to Dey president and CEO, Mel Engle, ALA president John L. Kirkwood personally thanked Dey for the Company’s dedication to the ALA’s fundraising efforts. “The generosity and commitment from the staff of Dey is something that I am sure gives you great pride,” wrote Kirkwood. “You have raised the bar across the country for companies and teams at all of our walks.”
Nationwide, 140 “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” walks have raised more than $5.5 million so far in 2003 to fund asthma education and advocacy programs as well as research into better treatments and a cure for asthma and other lung diseases. In addition to the Santa Rosa walk, Dey employees across the country participated in separate “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” walks in Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York and Ft. Lauderdale.
“We’re honored to receive national recognition from the ALA and pleased to be able to contribute to the ALA in this fashion,” remarked Engle. “We truly understand the daily struggles of victims of respiratory diseases such as asthma and emphysema, and Dey and its employees are committed to helping to treat these conditions. We can do that through the work we do here every day and by contributing our time and financial resources to the ALA’s advocacy efforts.”
“On behalf of the Redwood Empire Chapter of the ALA, I would like personally to add my thanks to Dey and its employees for their truly outstanding support of the ALA’s mission,” said Les Crawford, president of the Redwood Empire Chapter. “Their dedication and teamwork are an inspiring model, and they have been instrumental to the success of our local walk here in Northern California.”
